It’s Fashion Week or more like Fashion month and it is also cold. New York Fashion Week has just come to a close and London Fashion Week has just begun. Ever wondered how those people can be so fashionable in freezing weather? I mean let’s be honest, half the people wearing at FW are wearing what should be worn in the spring in one of the coldest months of the year. Luckily it has been a bit warm these last few days, but not anymore. So, if you are not headed to London, or Paris, or Milan, and you’re stuck in an igloo, like me, here are some tips so you can feel like your in fashion week even when the weather really wants to stop you from being great.
- Layers. This may seem obvious, but it might not be. As great as my big fluffy down coat is, it is not made for fashion, it is made for function. While some days I don’t mind, there are some times when you don’t want to look like you just came out the Siberian wilderness. You might want to wear that nice trench coat. Go ahead and do it, just add a sweater or two. Cuteness is not worth catching a cold for.
- Wear thermals. This is related to layering, but I want to emphasize this. I don’t know if this is common but I have met people that don’t wear thermals. If you are one, please get some, they are wonderful. Many brands make thin ones that fit easily under your skinny jeans.
- Sunglasses. Wear your shades all year long. I used to not wear them in the winter but I do now because when it snows the reflection can be intense. Also, sunglasses enhance any look. It never hurts to have them.
- Boots. Some stylish yet functional boots are a must-have if you will be walking around in a snow-covered city.
